About Our Books

In 2017, when their daughter Liza was diagnosed with autism, Kathryn Zeigler (author) and Todd Zeigler (editor) struggled to find books that both Liza could relate to and that portrayed a hopeful, inclusive vision of her future. Most books focused on autism in a way that seemed apologetic for the behaviors and traits associated with it.

As Liza's parents supported her in finding her voice, they discovered a deep sense of joy in the small victories that others might overlook. Over time, they met other families and realized that autism manifests in diverse and unique ways, with love and valuable lessons at its core. This inspired the creation of The Spectrum Series™, a collection of stories focused on celebrating neurodivergent individuals and their lives, emphasizing representation beyond the diagnosis and highlighting the truth of their experiences. Making it truly a family project, Liza's sister Mimi lovingly illustrates each book.

Proudly published by Iron Pirate LLC, The Spectrum Series presents books full of love with characters that celebrate the gifts, challenges, and achievements of children with autism. The books help spark healthy conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion and help readers ask big questions while building their understanding of neighborhood and friendship.
